(FAUXBEAR, Michael Faubert) is a self-taught, Toronto-based, emerging visual artist who previously pursued an academic career for over a decade in international politics and the philosophy of science. His work contrasts playfully absurd characters with surreal environments to convey abstract concepts, extreme emotional states, and half-remembered nightmares. Currently inspired by street art, graffiti, comics and animation, he’s focused on building a series of character-based illustrations and single-page abstract comics using ink and watercolour.
